Here is a list of Covent Garden hotels but on the menu on the left of the page also click on Holborn which is also nearby and you will get a bigger selection.

Covent Garden has lots of shops, pubs, restaurants etc.

Since it is your first time in London I think i would take a taxi to my hotel from Euston. To those areas it should be about £10.

Then at your leisure you can go to the nearest tube station and get a one day Travelcard if you need to use the tube or buses.

Staying in a hotel in the covent garden area would be very expensive. It would be cheaper to stay near Euston (there is a Travelodge next door to the station, which is where I usually stay when I visit London). You'll then travel to the Covent Garden area by tube from Euston station. There's a LOT of entertaiment venues in the West End (round Covent Garden, Piccadilly, Leicester Square etc). The Euston area is quieter but there are some nice pubs around there, and from Euston you can also walk into Bloomsbury which has some good restaurants and cafes.

1. Yes - there are loads of reasonably priced hotels in the area such as the Covent Garden Travelodge and the Strand Palace Hotel. www.laterooms.com should find you something between 50 and 100 pounds a night.

2. Yes loads, The Colliseum is easy to spot as it has a large gold sphere on top of the building that you can see from the area and it's equidistant between Charing Cross tube station and Covent Garden. Also nearby is Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square. Why not do Chinatown (behind Leicester Square) for dinner before theatre and have some dim sum - yummy. Only 5 mins walk from Colliseum - Lisle Street / Gerrard Street / Wardour Street. There are pubs and restaurants in Covent Garden too and street performers during the day. Have a pint at the Punch and Judy pub and watch them from the balcony. Maxwells is good if you like American burger type fare or try Jamies Italian (no booking, just turn up and wait for a table) near Leicester Square tube station. The Nags Head is a popular pub right opposite Covent Garden tube station with friendly people and pub food. If you like cocktails then Dirty Martinis next to the London Transport Museum has good cocktails and table service. If you fancy a bit of clubbing after the ballet then the Roadhouse club next to the Jubilee market is good and does American diner food from 7pm and is open till 3am.

3. Get the tube from Euston to Green Park station then change for the Piccadilly Line to Covent Garden. Don't get a taxi as they are very expensive and the tube is much quicker.

Walk from Covent Garden to the ballet as it's only 5 minutes away.

Covent Garden is an ideal place to stay for what you require. From Euston to Covent Garden take the Underground Northern Line (Charing Cross branch) to Leicester Square and change there to the Piccadilly Line for Covent Garden. Other nearby areas with lots of hotels are Russell Square and Bloomsbury

For your rail ticket from Stoke to London Euston, tickets booked well in advance for specifically timed trains will be the cheapeat www.virgintrains.co.uk

Covent Garden has lots of entertainments of all sorts including lots of pubs bars and restaurants. Go across the Charing Cross road and you are immediately in China Town and then on into SoHo the very heard of London's West End.

1. It might be expensive

2. I don't know

3. If you use public transport it might be worth 'hiring' an oyster card, you put your deposit and some credit on it, use it, then get your deposit back when you're done with it.

From Euston take the Victora Line train (to Brixton) Change at Kings Cross/St.Pancras and take the Piccadilly line train to Covent Garden

Edit: Forgot about the Ballet, from Covent Garden you can walk to the Coliseum, it only takes about 5 minutes. Check Google maps for the route.

Just to add that there is a lot of entertainment and things to do in Covent Garden. There is a shopping area and places to eat. At this time of year there are lots of street entertainers about too and you can take in a coffee at Covent Garden and watch.
