Going to London in about a week and a half and am looking for some suggestions on moderately priced, easy to get to (via Tube or Bus), "authentic" British cuisine restaurants.

The food does not suck here-only people who think it did before they arrived think so.

There is a couple chains of pubs here called, Wetherspoons and Yates. Often these pubs have a '2 meals for £5 to 7' deal. And the meals on offer are british standbys like Fish and chips, steak and ale pie, curry, and usually have one vegetarian option as well. The idea is the food is cheap b/c they will make it back from you on alcohol. So if you can go to a pub, and eat and just drink tap water you are doing great.

Additionally, try out Kebab shops. Nothing beats a Kebab after a night of drinking. Albeit, it is not 'British Food' but it is part of British Culture and you can get a good chicken or shish kebab for under £4.

These pubs are everywhere. You don't have to look hard and even pubs that arent part of those chains do it to compete. If you need more advice, instant message me on yahoo. As an American now living in London, I can give you some excellent places to try!

I'll give you some tips based on my stay in Australia, which has similarly horrendous food! Trust me, you cannot prepare yourself for it, food standards in America are so high that even the worst meal you have ever had here will be leagues better than the average meal you get in England and Australia. Stick with fried foods whenever possible like chicken and whatnot, they cannot screw that up. Avoid hamburgers whenever possible unless it's from an American chain. Always use a lot of salt and pepper. Bring snacks from home that you like, you will not regret it! The potato chip aisle in the grocery store will astonish you, as will other aisles.

British food is garbage, you can't even try to like it. Stop listening to the apologists who think they're so smart for liking it. Unless you pay a lot of money or go to an American chain, the food here is going to suck!

When I was in Londan I ate mostly French food and at Burger King. There is quite a few resturants serving authenic British Cusine but they are overpriced and the staff comes off too snotty.THE ONLY BRITISH FOOD I HAD WAS THE FREE BREAKFAST I RECIEVED AT THE HOTEL AND THE AUTOMAT FOR LUNCH Check the link and get more information
