Anyone have experience with either of the cities? What are your thoughts? Where would you rather live?

Melbourne without any doubt at all....in terms of weather, property prices, opportunities, outdoor healthy living, top restaurants, sporting venues and sporting choices in terms of taking part. I wouldn't think twice about living in Melbourne if i had the chance. The people are more welcoming and friendly.

Melbourne, any day of the week.

Australian cities are expensive but they're not a patch on London, even taking into account the difference in wages. You'd get a lot more for your money in Melbourne. The weather is much better, the people and lifestyle are more relaxed, good food, less crime, interesting subculture (if you're into that kind of stuff).

The only thing that London has which you won't find so much in Melbourne is the abundance and quality of nightlife / music. That really is about all though.

While I love Melbourne ( I've been twice and stayed with Relatives) I am a hard line Londoner. Both have their pros & cons. If you are an Australian then my advice is to stay where you know: the economy, the language, the social infrastructure, even the politics. And will you be leaving family & friends behind?

good luck.

The cost of living in Australian cities is even higher than in London and the extreme summer heat pretty unbearable, but really you should visit both cities before making a decision. You are looking at two very different countries

What Richard S says is nonsense. London is by far the best in terms of prices, opportunities, resturants, sporting venues. Having lived in both, I know Richard S is displaying bias in his answer.
