Hello,
I'm thinking about moving to London, and I found a good accomodation in Hackney road, Hoxton, just next to the Hoxton subway station.
is that a safe place or a dangerous place?
Please let me know,
thanks

Hackney Road is quite a long road. Its also relatively busy, so in that sense yes, safe, as people are always about.

It is in the London borough of Hackney though and that has a reputation as being a bit rough, but, I have friends who live in and around Hoxton, and they're the arty/graphic designer/posh type. I mean Keira Knightley and her new BF live around there. The whole area is full of young people. Its very close to Old Street which is excellent for night life, and then to the other side you've got Bethnal Green, also known as rough, but great for the markets, and for the Currys! Victoria Park is lovely and in walking distance. Mare St is a high street, for things like tescos. Plus you are ontop of Shoreditch which is THE new in trendy place to be. So you'd save a fortune on cabs.

I mean no where in London is 100% safe. Of course people have been mugged there. But I have lived in London for 25 years and (touch wood) never been mugged, and I live in East London. You have to be safe, but the would be a great place to live IMO. The only thing I would check is if it is on the Hackney Road, as its quite a busy road, so maybe noisy? If you're room is at the front and you're not used to it. It might be off the Hackney road, which would mean less traffic.

I would say that's a nice place to live, no more dangerous than most places, there will always be some danger in any city, If your coming from America you might find all of London intimidating, It's a tube station BTW (Calling it a subway will make you look like a tourist), only the station at Hoxton is an overground station, but it still a good one as the line is very new. Don't call a toilet a 'restroom' and never stop and look at maps at the bottom of an escalator.

I was born in Hoxton,we dropped the aitch,in 1928,it was a rough slum area, now all the Georgian Houses that were nor demolished are worth a million.it is an up and coming place, quite expensive and is not in the rough part of the Hackney Road.Do what you do in your own country in large cities, keep your wits about you and do not flash jewellery
