Question:
Why do people live in London or England?

If they can afford to live somewhere else?
I mean I thought Cate Blanchett would live somewhere nice like Australia but she lives in London! And so do many others - Why?
(If I could afford to live somewhere else this is one of the last places I would want to live)

Do you even know what you are on about!

london is a main attraction, people come to live in london due to it is more expensive than were they originally are from.

England is something like the 4th biggest economy in the world!

England is one and maybe the most important major countries to have risen!

If I could afford a big house with a garden in central London, like Cate Blanchett, I'd want to stay in London. As it is, I can't, so I'm planning to emigrate.

Why would anyone want to live in Australia - it's full of Australians ;o)

I like visiting London, for exactly all the reasons people have written about.

But i wouldn't choose to live there.

I expect Cate Blanchett has this luxury too : she "lives" there in that she spends some time there, but can get away often for extended periods to work / live in another part of the world...

London is a major world city. It is also the centre of many industries, including the communications industry - show biz etc.

Without wishing to sound rude - if Cate Blanchett returned to Australia to live she would very quickly be forgotten and presumed dead in only a few short years.

For the rest of us, we were born here or simply fell madly in love with a city daft enough to allow us to do as we feel and say what we like.

well it certainly aint because of the weather! but brition has got things that other places doesnt, the people are very different, not saying they're better but its what you like, what your used to and what appeals to you, you can have an amazing house in spain or somewhere and have the lovely weather and amazing veiws but you wont have the people with the personality that england does, the country lanes where the trees crowd around you like a tunnel and you wont have the buskers that the underground has, or the knowledge that when you compleatly alone in your flat your not the only person awake, or that you can wonder around the city and see someone dressed as a teapot but acting like its the most normal thing in the world. you wont have people who wave to you as if they know you or greet you like they're your oldest friend. rather then thinking about what england hasnt got think about what we have. its got attitude weather its a good one or not its one that you wont find any where else! my friend moved out of london and says that he misses getting stuck in traffic and sharing anoyed looks with other people who are stuck too! there is no where else like england! (by the way im not an england lover! in fact im moving back to australia soon but i will miss england for being england!!)

I'm married to a Londoner who escaped and would never go back. He hates big Cities, traffic and noise, so we live in a much cheaper part of the Country in a Market Town.

Conversely, my daughter moved to live just outside of London where property prices are 3-4 times local ones, and she reckoned it was a marvellous place.

Horses for Courses as the saying goes.

Some bits of london are awful, mostly it's great. Expensive though. London is the capital of the World, it truly is a 24hour city, not like some others that claim to be, there is always something going on, something to see, somewhere to go.

Would I live there? No, would I have a flat there if i could afford one? Yes!

No offence at all people, but your full of ****. London is one of the most overrated cities in the world.

The only reason you people live in London is because you don t have the confidents to live in a country like America.

Born and raised in London. All my family and friends are here. Thats why i live in London. I can move elsewhere if i wanted to but why do that when i got everything i need in London.

Also the salary here is good, i would get a third less for doing the same thing up North.

Eh? London's hardly cheap so if you live in London, you can certainly afford to live anywhere else in the UK (and the world subject to immigration/visa laws).

Besides, I like London and people like Cate Blanchett probably have more than one home! lol.

London can be very expensive in some areas. I guess some american movie stars etc tend to prefer it in this country as they dont get hassled by the media as much and can live a pretty simple life without getting sucked into the whole "Hollywood" L.A etc thing. People have said there are much nicer people here and its just different from America I guess!!

While Australia is a lovely place to live, if you have ever suffered through 2 weeks straight of 45 degree weather, it's too hot to go outside, you can't turn your airconditioner on because of power restrictions, you can't run under a sprinker cause of water restrictions, and if you want to go to the beach as soon as you step out of the water, your boiling hot again, I can see why someone would chose England! If I could afford to split my life between here and England I would!

London's a wonderful place to live. Great shops, theatres, museums, art galleries, concerts. Lots of parks and green spaces. Like any other city it has its problems, but I have always lived in London and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

London is one of the most exciting capital cities in the world.

There are more theatres, more bars and clubs, more historic buildings, more public parks, more culture and art galleries than any other city in the world except Rome.

Of course, Americans just come to see the queen.

They probably live where they do because of the work opportunities. There is no point being in Australia if all your work is in London.

why do you hate london?

london one of the top fashion and financial centres in the world. its exciting, noisy and its true its very expensive, that is why lots of rich people all over the world live there. the world most expensive house is in london owned by an arab trillionaire. and do you know what the house isnt even massive, as youd expect. londons like new york but quirkier

why do you live where you do? i have been to England and London and i enjoyed both. although 34 years ago when i visited London the IRA were very busy and there were alot of bombs going off. it was still a beautiful city and i enjoyed my visit to it and would love to be able to go back and visit it again. although next time i would love to go further out into the country side of England.

"J'habite à Londres" (conversational) "J'habite Londres" (formal and literary) in case you want to specify "England", you ought to upload "en Angleterre" yet that's in basic terms no longer mandatory because (a) French human beings recognize the position "Londres" is and (b) the habit of affixing the country call to each and each and every position call, even rather properly ordinary ones like London, is difficulty-free actually in the united states and isn't any longer in many circumstances utilized by technique of different English audio equipment or in different languages.

They think its the in thing, living in England. It beats me why they want to live in a country that`s going down the toilet fast, but after a while they go back from whence they came, I wonder why?
