Compared to the east end, yes it's safe(ish). A lot of pick pockets. Like Bayswater it has a transient theme. I'm not particularly appealed to the area unless there's a specific restaurant I want to visit.

As in has few road accidents? Yes, mainly, it is a lot safer then accident blackspots like Elephant and Castle or Newham Way. However, do watch the signals before crossing the road.

Yes it's safe. And there are always people around as there are plenty of late night restaurants, and lots of night buses and taxis on the street at all hours
I used to live a few blocks off Edgware Road and walked it at all times of the day and night with no problems

Edgware Road is one of the longest roads in London, so there is nothing you can say that applies to every stretch of it. This being said, London is a safe city on the whole.
