Its 68 miles away and would take almost 2 hours.

A taxi would cost, I'd guess, at least £100, probably nearer £200. You'd have to negotiate a fare with the taxi firm because it would be way outside its metered area.

Why not get the train from Winchester? They are frequentand the journey time is about 1h10mins. See http://www.nationalrail.co.uk for timetables. over one ho ro

Why on earth would you want to get a Taxi from the railway station in Winchester to Central London? The frequent train service will be cheaper and quicker. Travel first class and buy tickets for the first four people you see - it will still be a lot quicker.

A taxi from central London to Kent which is much closer and easily accessible by car than Winchester costs over 200 pounds so you can at least be thinking in the region of 300

There will be some people who get offended, it's not my place to say they're hearts are like shrivelled up prunes. Perhaps some people take it too far and get up against a wall and so on, and I expect that this specific part of the UK has created this law because of them. If this were the case everywhere, the same rule would be applied to Airports, all train stations and other forms of long distance public transport. But it won't be because this is a one off thing, I'm sure of it!

But if you are paying for 4 people, taxi fare MAY not be anymore than train fare.
