My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving to Barnet, but I don't really know much about it - is it a nice place to live? We've never lived anywhere in London before.
Are there plenty of supermarkets? (sounds like a mad question but we live in Oxford at the moment and the supermarkets here are tiny and expensive!)

Like every borough of London , Barnet has nice areas and less nice areas but on the whole it is one of the best London boroughs and has some very attractive , semi-rural areas and expensive parts too. Popular with families because it has lots of good schools.

Barnet is lovely place to live and it has lots of supermarkets and markets (eg:Tesco Friern Barnet, Sainsbury's New Barnet and Budgens East Barnet Village [There are loads of other markets there too and some restaraunts too so that's a very nice place to spend time])

Lots of good, educated and freindly people in Edgware and Stanmore; (these are 2 places in Barnet. Lots of Private, State, Secondary, Primary and there are also grammar schools like Queen Elizabeth Boys, Henrietta Barnet Girls' School Mill Hill County, Friern Barnet School and Hendon School)

If you decide to live in Friern Barnet, just try not to go down in New Southgate because that is quite a rough area.

High Barnet, aka Chipping Barnet, from what I remember, is very boring and miles out of London, although the air is fresh by London standards. I remember going there once when I lived in Islington and compared with Islington it seemed very white, very suburban and almost scarily lower middle class.

Finchley is the part of the borough of Barnet where the educated people live, shall we say, and even that is quite a sniffy suburban area, tho' it's positively cosmopolitan compared to High Barnet, lol. Then you have areas like Totteridge with big affluent houses full of annoying people who mostly work in the city and who have lots of money.

I have heard that some parts are good and some bad - I have a relative who lives nearby. It would be best if you go to that area and have a look around, maybe talk to some locals as well. Type in Barnet, London on the search engine (internet) and see what comes up.

for my section the proper place to stay could be an appealing, medium- to massive- sized city, that's close sufficient to the vast city which you will not lose interest, yet close to sufficient to the rustic as to be relaxing once you desire. tub is a sturdy occasion (on the component of Bristol, and not a million miles from London), or someplace in the Lake District (not too far from Manchester). Cornwall is gorgeous too, yet perhaps slightly far from civilization!

As long as you don't mind being halfway to Birmingham it's fine.
