You seem to have everything needed for a stay as tourist in the USA.

Call your airline and ask from what terminal they depart. Check in at that terminal at their check-in counter at Heathrow. And ask for directions to the gate. Make sure you have no pointed instrument (knife, scissors) in your cabin luggage and no fluids. Small (less than 100 ml) containers for cosmetics you have to put in plastic bags when you take them on board. Medication you need is OK. Anything that you are not allowed in the cabin you should pack in your checked baggage.

Pass calmly through passport control and the security checks and walk to the gate and then RELAX.

At the end of your flight you have to fill in a US Form to declare what goods you import (gifts). You can't import certain foodstuffs like Hungarian Salami, though.

Have a happy time in Atlanta, after you found your way to the luggage carousel.

People in Atlanta are normally a friendly bunch.

You just need to make sure that you have your tickets and some dollars and you are fine. Have a great trip.

When you arrive at the airport, check in, go through passport control and then keep an eye on the screens for your flight to show the boarding gate. Once it does, head for that gate.

As far as I know that is all you'll need. I was just in the Atlanta airport; it's big but I had no trouble getting around and everyone was really nice. Everything was well marked, follow the signs. Wear comfy, easy to get off shoes, and I wouldn't carry too much. Heathrow is big too but they move people around all the time so just be aware of where you are, and watch your stuff, you'll be just fine. Bring some entertainment. Welcome to the US!

You will be fine with passport. You will need to fill in a boarding card on the plane with details of where you will spend your first night in the USA, so make sure you have a copy of your hotel/friends house address. They do randomly pull people from the line to question them further (happened to me once), but be sure of your answers and they will let you through. (I was asked what was the purpose of my visit, how long was I staying, what date was my flight home, who was I travelling with and where was I going to be staying). You WILL be fingerprinted and have your photo taken at border control in the USA.

Heathrow is huge, but its fairly simple to find your way around once you're through security. Get through security faster by taking minimal hand luggage, wearing shoes you can easily slip on and off, and not wearing metal on your clothes if you can help it.
