No - they finish around midnight(ish) and start around 5.30 am

No, most tube lines run until about 00:30am, although some do run until 1am (the Central line for example). Most National Rail services operate until about 1:30am, but some do operate until at least 3am.
At 4am the only way you can get around is by bus. London has a brilliant nightbus service that operate all of the early hours. The best route is as follows:
Walk from the o2 Arena to North Greenwich tube station. This takes about 5 minutes. At the station, take the number 188 bus towards Russell Sq. At Elephant & Castle station, get off the bus and change onto the number 45 towards Kings Cross St Pancras. Journey takes roughly an hour.

The last tube leaves the centre of London around midnight (some later but I always say midnight to be sure). There are night buses which run all night although some only run every half hour so make sure you know the times and numbers of buses before you travel.
The tubes start running again at 5am so you might be better hanging around for an hour if you can.
I looked it up and the journey is not pretty - it will take around an hour and a half by night bus and you'll have to change at least a couple of times depending on exactly where you're going from and to.

London is an excellent place to spend the holyday in family, especially with kids because in London are plenty of kid-friendly areas to go to and that Hotelbye com is the place to begin knowing. In London you may get up close and personal with marine animals at SEALIFE London Aquarium or explore the Science Museum, London's fun link of technology and engineering and both are perfect for fun household holyday within London. London also presents for visiting the Tate Contemporary, Britain's national memorial of contemporary and contemporary art. And, perhaps not forget the SEALIFE London Aquarium; the house of 500 species of aquatic living, from sharks and piranhas to Nemo-style clownfish. London is undeniably a unique city.

I don't think they run after midnight. I was there last night for a connection from Euston to Kings Cross but there was no service. For me it was only a 8 min walk but I guess it could be worse if you are going further.
Overground (National Rail) and buses run till late. I have been on a train past 1.30am from Kings Cross.

as matt said except you can stay on the 188 all the way to russell square and walk to kings cross.
or if you're going the other way walk from kings X to the 188 stop on Southampton rd (stop B) and stay on all the way to North Greenwich then walk to the O2. the 188 is a 24 hour service. and there are plenty student halls and hotels en route from kings x to russell sq so it's pretty safe at night. best route is come out of kings cross and walk down euston rd in the direction of euston station. cross the road and turn left down upper woburn place (approx 5th left) after about 5 mins you'll come out unto russell square and southampton row. in total about 12 min walk
go to tfl.gov.org for more info and follow the links for buses, 188 and russell square

The Tube does not run all night and most 'last trains' are soon after midnight. Your best bet is going to be either a 24-hour bus or a Night Bus.
Trains finish at 12am. Rail system carries on till about 1am... but there is very limited service. The London buses run all night though :)

I wouldn't get on a night bus in London if you paid me and I'm a Londoner and have lived and worked here all my life. Granted, I wouldn't get on a bus in the day either. If I cant use the tube/train, I get in a taxi.

They do not run all night as that is when the maintenance is being carried out, but there is a bus service that you are able to use..
